COACHING
What is ADD/ADHD Coaching?
Coaching is a powerful tool a person with ADD/ADHD
can use to deal with challenges arising from this condition.
A coach helps a person set goals, formulate specific steps
to reach those goals, and develop the skills needed to achieve
the desired results. A coach is also the clients cheerleader,
providing non-judgmental support and encouragement throughout
the process.
Edward M. Hallowell, M.D., and John G. Ratey, M.D., authors
of Driven to Distraction: Recognizing and Coping with Attention
Deficit Disorder from Childhood through Adulthood, have stated,
We particularly like the idea of a coach. . .the coach
can stave off a reversion to old bad habits: habits of procrastination,
disorganization, and negative thinking.
The Coaching Process
The coaching process begins with a two-hour
initial meeting. Clients provide general information and
begin identifying life areas they wish to focus on and goals
they want to achieve. Weekly follow-up sessions are 30-40
minutes, by phone or in person. These may be supplemented
with a daily check-in by phone or email. ADDed Dimensions
has 3-month, 6-month, and 1-year coaching programs. Cost
is based on the program chosen and factors such as number
of in-person contacts desired. To enroll in a Coaching Program
